Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

  • I am like your mom, sister, or best friend - but with a lot of birth experience, and without any baggage.

A doula is a trained professional who provides emotional, physical, and informational support before, during, and after birth. I help you navigate your options, advocate for your choices, and ensure you feel confident and supported throughout your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey.

  • There are so many reasons you might want or need a doula!

You would benefit from a doula if you…

Want confidence and clarity - You feel overwhelmed by the birth process and need guidance to understand your options and make informed decisions.

Want to be an active participant in your birth - You want to feel in control and empowered. You want to own the experience of giving birth instead of feeling like birth is happening to you.

Want to heal or reclaim your birth experience - You’ve had a past birth that left you feeling unsettled, and you want this experience to be different. I support clients with previous difficult birth experiences as well as clients going for a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean).

Want your partner or family to feel confident supporting you - Your loved ones want to help but often do not have a lot of birth experience. Without support, they will be unprepared for the sights, sounds, and intensity of birth, and you want them to feel prepared and involved.

  • Midwives provide medical care, including prenatal checkups, catching the baby, and handling medical concerns. A doula offers non-medical support. I help with comfort measures, emotional reassurance, and birth preparation. I work alongside midwives, OBs, and nurses to make sure you feel fully supported.

  • No! My goal is to support your birth choices - whether that’s an epidural, a C-section, or an unmedicated home birth. I provide the information and guidance you need to make the decisions that feel best for you.

  • Yes! Whether you’re birthing at a hospital, birth center, or home, I offer in-person and virtual doula support to help you feel prepared and empowered wherever you give birth.

  • Yes! Doulas can be an essential support system for planned and unplanned C-sections. I can help you prepare, support you in the OR (if allowed), and provide postpartum recovery support and guidance.

Working With Me

  • The sooner, the better! Many people hire a doula in the first or second trimester to get the most out of prenatal support, but I take clients at any stage of pregnancy if I have availability.

  • That’s what I’m here for! If you book my in-person package, I am on call for you 24/7 starting at 38 weeks. If you’re using my virtual support, I’ll be available via text and phone throughout your labor.

  • No - it is not possible for me to replace your partner’s role, and I would never want to.

I support both you and your partner. Many partners feel relieved to have support and guidance, so they can be more present and involved without the pressure of knowing everything about birth.

Partners have very rarely been to more than 1-2 births themselves, and it is so helpful to have a doula there has a lot more birth experience.

  • With my virtual package, you’ll get:

    • two prenatal calls to prepare

    • real-time text and phone support during labor

    • a postpartum session to process your birth and navigate the early days of parenting.

It’s the perfect option for those who want expert support but don’t want in-person assistance.

  • Yes! Both my in-person and virtual doula packages include postpartum visits, and I also offer Facilitating Joy sessions to help with recovery, sleep, feeding, and adjusting to parenthood.
